Sale of 1 King Street to Regal Bifrons Properties

November 2024

This historic South Shields landmark building is set for a transformation and change of use.

👉 1 King Street - formerly a Barclays Bank - will become 26 one-bedroomed & studio apartments in the
     revitalisation of the town centre (subject to planning).

👉 Chris Pearson as sold this striking, curved, sandstone building, built in the early 1800’s, on behalf of a
     private investor, to Regal Bifrons Properties.

👉 The buyer believes converting the retail premises into homes will support the Council’s vision for the town
     centre by:

      - Bringing an empty property back into use; and
      - Helping consolidate the town’s retail offer & introduce more residential properties to this area of the              town.

👉 The 12,410 sq. ft. building, which is dual aspect with frontages on King Street and 2 – 4 Fowler Street, is
     set over six floors including a basement.

👉 Regal Bifrons is part of Hughes Alexander Property Management which has investors that are also bringing
     regeneration plans to other areas of South Shields including:

     - The former Maisy’s Bar & Nightclub on Ocean Road;
     - 10 Mile End Road; and
     - 26-28 Fowler Street

     which are also earmarked for conversion into residential units (subject to planning).
